Grimoires / Angelic & Olympic
Angelic & Olympic
The seven archangels and the seven Olympic spirits.
The free operation, Michael: The Sun's Champion, runs on any edition of the station, including the free one.
Two sets of seven planetary spirits run through the old ceremonial magic, and this grimoire gives an operation for each of the fourteen: the seven angels of the days from the Heptameron, and the seven Olympic spirits of the Arbatel of Magic. Both follow the seven planets and keep to their days and hours, but they are worked differently.
The Heptameron, the Magical Elements attributed to Peter of Abano, makes each angel "chief ruler" of one day and of its first hour: Michael of Sunday, Gabriel of Monday, Samael of Tuesday, Raphael of Wednesday, Sachiel of Thursday, Anael of Friday, Cassiel of Saturday. They are conjured as the Heptameron conjures them, by divine names, by the hosts of their heavens, and by their stars, and here each is joined by the intelligence Agrippa sets over the magic square of the same planet. On the station they run in the usual way: the divine name vibrated once for each row of the square, the conjuration, a short renewal every day in an hour of the planet, and the full conjuration again on each of the angel's days.
The Olympic spirits are governors of the firmament. The Arbatel (1575; Turner's translation 1655) lists the gifts of each and calls them simply: at sunrise on their own day, by name, office, and character, with a short prayer, and never for more than "a full hour". Between calls the station holds the petition by the governor's office alone, so their commands carry no names.
Both books are Christian. The Heptameron's licence begins "In the Name of the Father", and the Arbatel's prayer ends "through Jesus Christ"; add those words where this pack leaves them out, if they belong to your practice.
