Grimoires / Mercury
Mercury
Persuasion, trade, contracts, study, and journeys.
The free operation, The Persuading Tongue, runs on any edition of the station, including the free one.
Mercury rules speech and writing, trade and contracts, learning, messages, journeys, and the finding out of hidden things. His day is Wednesday. His colour is orange, from the deep orange of the outer frame to pale amber. His metal is quicksilver, which no one should handle: the Key of Solomon gives him "the mixture of metals", so brass or any alloy serves. His incense is storax and mastic; the Heptameron makes mastic the perfume of Wednesday. Agrippa gives him the magic square of eight, with Tiriel as his intelligence and Taphthartharath as his spirit, and writes that his table, made when Mercury is fortunate, brings gain and helps memory, understanding, divination, and the understanding of hidden things by dreams. The Heptameron names Raphael as the angel of his day, and the Arbatel names Ophiel, "the governour of such things as are attributed to Mercury", who teaches all arts. The divine name of his sphere is Elohim Tzabaoth, the God of Hosts.
The Key of Solomon gives the days and hours of Mercury to "eloquence and intelligence; promptitude in business; science and divination", and to writings and merchandise. These operations follow that list. On the station most of them run quicker than the work of Venus or the Moon: frequencies from 6 to 12, orange frames, the element of Air, and pre-hypnosis whenever the work is aimed at another person. His number is eight: vibrate his name eight times, and count his operations in eights of days.
Begin in an hour of Mercury, the first after sunrise on a Wednesday for preference. Mercury is quick and changeable, so renew the work every day and keep exact records: names, dates, words said, papers signed. He answers in words; listen for them.
